Ben Morris

Engineering lead focused on building lightweight solutions to the most costly friction.

About me

My journey has taken me from the biggest to the smallest of companies in the industry, and my biggest pet peeve is the recurring problem of engineers finding amazing, rigorous solutions to what end up being the wrong problems. At Tenera, we learned to avoid this by starting with identifying real friction in the engineering field, speaking to customers and understanding why those problems exist, and finally rapidly creating and delivering prototypes for trials. Once you've found measurable success there - then you've found a solution worth having.

In practice, as an IC I ship fast and incrementally to ensure solid foundations before overinvesting. As a team lead, I make sure we quickly deliver the right features for our product through rapid experimentation and measurement. As CTO, I applied this strategy so that we ship the right products for and learn the right lessons from our customers. This allowed us to build Tenera Reports from the ground up in six months with a small team, and have it deployed in the field for multiple customers within weeks of launch.

I am currently handing off the CTO role at Tenera, and looking towards future team lead roles in new industries as well as projects of my own. These include passion projects like Whirligig, personal process improvers like Diane, as well as tie-ins to my interests in music and art like Paradiddle, Framer.

If you're interested in these projects or in hearing more about my experience, don't hesitate to reach out on LinkedIn. I'm always happy to chat.
